Christmas in July: Looking Back Week 3

Image
Hello friends! I can't believe we are nearly done with the month of July! Where does the summer go? This week I am sharing some lodge/rustic/cabin Christmas decor from Christmas past at our house.  Our basement level living area is decorated in a Northwood style year round.  I will be back next week with the pics of our den/home office remodel.  Have a great weekend. Goodbye Golden Oak Doors

Image
Hello sweet friends! My camera is still giving me grief, so I am resorting to using my phone for pics.  I thought about waiting until this camera issue is resolved, but I want to keep up with my blogging. So...I apologize for some not so great photos. Okay, with that detail out of the way, here is what has been going on this week at my house:  We had our original golden oak, flat panel doors replaced on our second floor.  Last year, we replaced the doors on our first floor and then gave our finances a recovery break, lol.   Here is a before photo.  When we built our house in 2001, the finish was called cider.  It was very pretty, but over time the reddish brown morphed into a very orange, Bozo the Clown  color.  Our upstairs hall is dark, small and hard to photograph.   However, you can see the beautiful paneled, English oak doors we had installed.  They are so beautiful and make our house feel brand new aga...

Christmas in July: Looking Back Week 2

Image
Welcome sweet friends! I am back for week two of my Christmas in July series.  Today I am sharing a few shots of our front entry.   I love this old washstand.  I've had it for a few years now and keep threatening to give it a makdover.  I'm thinking of paint, but may try a darker gel stain.  This indecision is why it has remained golden oak! I guess I will know when it's "time," lol.  I went with a dog theme for our Christmas entry last year.  The Rae Dunn ornaments are so cute.  I also went old school and made some applesauce and cinnamon dog bone ornaments.  They smelled so good and were a cute addition. I found this old typewriter at a local antique store.  It was fun adding some whimsy with a letter typed by our dog! I wish you all a wonderful Monday and start of a new week. I'm still trying to figure out my camera issues.. I hope to get that figured out soon. Thanks for stopping by, ...

Summer Days & Clearing Some Clutter

Image
Good Saturday morning friends! The sun is shining here in Wisconsin and we finally are catching a break from the steamy & sticky heat we've been having the last week or so. I'm going to be busy sorting through years of Christmas decor, trying to downsize my overflowing stock pile. We are contemplating a move in the next year or so and I really need to part with many of my treasures (that are no longer treasures to me😁).  Wishing you some lazy summer days filled with simple summer pleasures.

Christmas In July: Looking Back Week 1

Image
Welcome sweet friends! I thought it would be fun to do a Christmas in July mini series, so welcome to week one!  I'll be posting some glimpses of Christmas past at my house each Monday in July.  Up first, my cocoa bar. Hope your week is off to a happy holiday kind of start! Jane

Computer Issues - But Some Before Pics

Image
Hi friends, I am so sorry I didn't post yesterday as promised.  I bought a new computer and spent most of the day on the phone with tech support trying to work out some problems (as in user errors, lol).  I finally got up and running last night, only to find the photos I wanted to use did not save to my SD. Ugh! However, I still wanted to get a post up for you all.  We recently gave our den a facelift.  It hadn't been changed in quite a while and the orange ceiling/brown walls were feeling way too dark.  The walls were brown, the floor was brown, the furniture was brown! After two coats of primer and three coats of a subtle, ice cream color, things were brightening up and looking so much fresher. We also added a beadboard accent wall, topped with a bit of wine paint above the picture rail. Here are some work in progress pictures.  I hope to figure out my picture issue  and can show you the pretty after shots soon. Ho...
