Gather 'Round The Fire

Image
Welcome friends! Today 's post is especially appropriate since Sunday we had a blizzard warning for our area.  What could be more appropriate and cozy during a blizzard but a fireplace?! This is our living room fireplace at Easter in 2018. Wisconsin fieldstone is a very popular choice for fireplace surrounds where we live. Not my first choice, but my husband caught me in a weak moment when we built our home years ago and well, we made it work. Honestly, I never liked it in our home. Here, you see we went neutral with our paint this spring and I'm loving it! My main purpose for sharing this picture is to showcase the lasting results of our housewarming party catastrophe: wax candles raining down onto our hearth stone! Oh no. I never got all the wax removed and we were left with a huge, ugly stain. That's why you will often see a little rug on our  hearth. A sorry (and not so great) attempt to hide it. I did this since 2001! I am happy to report that I wo

Holiday Corner

Image
Welcome friends! Amid the construction chaos in our living room, I did find time to add a little holiday charm to a corner of our master bedroom - seemingly the only spot in the house not covered in dust or boxes right now. If nothing else, it looks like a peaceful place to lounge around. Have you jumped on the Christmas decorating train yet? I am blessed and grateful for your visit today.

Going Up!

Image
Welcome friends! I gave  you a bit of a sneak peek in my last post of the area I am sharing today - our stairway! I apologize for the pictures - this is a dark, windowless space and is tough to photograph! But anyway, bad pics aside, this is our staircase - the first thing you see as you enter our home. My favorite, favorite, favorite thing about this area is my new wool carpeting! We had it installed at the end of August. I know it's not for everyone, but I have wanted this carpet from the day the first nail was driven when we built our house. It just covers the stair way. Once you get up to the hallway we have neutral carpeting. It is just what this simple area needed. I found this little door at one of my favorite flea markets this past summer. It's my door to nowhere, lol - but I think it looks quite charming. I added a cute and inexpensive sconce above it just for fun. I have a few vintage mirrors showcased here. I just love their patina. A Fall Flirtation

Image
Welcome Friends, I hadn't planned on posting today, but as I passed by a little washstand in my front entry, I was taken by the sun light shining on the wreath hanging in the mirror. This wreath is so pretty and I just loved the soft pinks and taupes of the florals. It is a bit of a departure from my deeper color scheme, but I think it co-mingled quite nicely. My fall flirtation with pastels! I'm thinking about painting this piece white. It is a very orange golden oak, and is kind of a mish mash of parts and repairs. I have had it for about a year now and keep threatening to take the brush to it! Something about this taupe flower...be still my heart! If you look to the far right of this pic, you can see a glimpse from something I will be posting about soon. I am blessed and grateful for your visit today. Let's Start At The Beginning

Image
Welcome friends! I'm so excited to finally get this blog up and running. After a few introductory type posts, it's time to get to decorating.  When I began thinking of what I should share first, I had a few ideas. The one that made the most sense was to start at the beginning. So, here is a photo of our home from early May of this year.  We built our house in 2001, a simple and classic saltbox style. We would have loved a front porch, but it just wasn't in the financial cards at the time. I've always loved the saltbox style, so porch or not, I was delighted with our new home. Fast forward 17 years later, we had the opportunity to completely redo our front entry and driveway this past summer. Here you see our front patio and sidewalk removed, with just the concrete stoop remaining. Beautiful things happened to this old stoop. Our contractor was able to save our daughter's signature and  handprint from our original driveway. He worked it into a

What My Blog Is Not & Decor Sneak Peek

Image
Welcome friends! As I thought about starting this new blog and all of things I wanted it  to be, I also knew what I didn't want it to be.  That is what I want to share with you today. I love to read decorating blogs, don't you?  I've got my favorites. I also have stopped reading a few. Not because I didn't enjoy their beautiful homes and talents. I stopped reading them because they became shaming blogs. You know the ones: they publish lists of what they deem outdated or passe. They snub their noses at chevron or burlap or Tuscan style, etc. - the very styles they at one time touted as the best thing since the invention of sliced bread. "What was I thinking?" " My style has matured so much since then. " Or they make statements such as,  "My house was so builder basic until I did this, that or the other thing to it." to my 3,000 square foot, whirlpool in the bath, granite countered home. Blah. Blah. Blah. I am guilty of saying some

The Adventure Begins

Image
Welcome friends! I am so excited to finally roll out my new blog today.  I've been blogging at  Bluebird1959  since 2012.  I've had the itch to make a few changes and, after much thought, an entirely new blog seemed to be my best choice. So....here we go! Why Far Ago Farm? When I was growing up, there was a farm on our road with a very long driveway. At the drive entrance, a wooden sign post read "Farago Farm." My entire life, I always believed the inspiration for the farm's name was it's long drive - you know,   far ago.  As I considered names for this blog, I mentioned to my husband my plans to name it after that farm.  He actually grew up next to that farm and his family knew the owners.  He wondered why I picked that name. I rolled my eyes. ("Do I really need to explain this honey? ") Well, it turns out, the owners were Italian and their last name was Farago. Pronounced Fa-Rah-Go.  Wah wah...There went my cute life connection for my blog
