Going Up!

I gave  you a bit of a sneak peek in my last post of the area I am sharing today - our stairway!

I apologize for the pictures - this is a dark, windowless space and is tough to photograph! But anyway, bad pics aside, this is our staircase - the first thing you see as you enter our home.


My favorite, favorite, favorite thing about this area is my new wool carpeting! We had it installed at the end of August. I know it's not for everyone, but I have wanted this carpet from the day the first nail was driven when we built our house. It just covers the stair way. Once you get up to the hallway we have neutral carpeting. It is just what this simple area needed.


I found this little door at one of my favorite flea markets this past summer. It's my door to nowhere, lol - but I think it looks quite charming. I added a cute and inexpensive sconce above it just for fun.

I have a few vintage mirrors showcased here. I just love their patina.




The hardware on the door is just stunning. It has a Star of David on it. I wish I knew the history of this piece!



I bought this cute saying from an Etsy shop a few years back. It was one of my daughter's favorite songs when she was a little girl. Passing by it every day just warms  my heart!



My house is currently a wreck as we are having our old fireplace, brick and mantel removed and replaced - a very messy undertaking, resulting in me moving everything out of the room to help keep things clean. We aren't hosting Thanksgiving this year or else I would really be stressing!

    Jane love love love the staircase decor. I love that super gorgeous door and the handle. I wonder if it came out of a church. You know me and doors. You scored a beautiful one with some history too.
    Maybe google the door handle and you might find out something about that door. Just a thought. Happy Thanksgiving.

    I'm finally able to comment and reply to people---as there was a glitch on my browser. Love the new blog...and yes, the staircase needed that nod to the past---to set the tone for all your lovely heirlooms and antiques. I'll personally never give up my patterned carpets, paisley or 10 patterns in a room. Grins!

    Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us, so many vintage pieces, all so lovingly placed.
    We are akin with our decorating styles, mine being typical English décor, mixed with southern farmhouse. Royal Doulton china, and aged southern crocks :)

    Jane. I absolutely love the carpet on the stairs and that little door is beautiful and charming. I love the grouping with that beautiful tarnished mirror (I have always wanted one that is peeling away).  Hi friends! It's been cold here in Kentucky and we even got a few inches of snow this morning. Winter has definitely shown up here and around the country! I actually enjoy cold weather and hunkering down in the house with warm sweaters, cozy  blankets and a steamy drink.  I have been working on a little kitchen refresh that I'm hoping to share in a few days. Cozy Winter Favorites: Wax Melts

Hi friends! I've been thinking about the things that make my house a home and give me all the cozy feels during the cold and sometimes dreary days of winter. I also thought it might be fun to do a little series of posts about them to share with you! Today let's visit one of all time favorite ways I like to cozy up my home, not just in the winter, but year around - wax melts!  There are so many things to like about wax melts, but my number one reason I'm a fan is no open flame! No danger of fire, no dirty soot. Don't get me wrong, I love a good candle (and do use them) but yikes, they sure burn dirty and make a mess when used day after day. And of course, the danger of forgetting to extinguish them and the risk of fire.  I do like the smell - or "throw" - of a candle more than a wax melt, but the wax melts are a great alternative!   Wax melts can be very economical - only a few dollars for a pack that will last you many, many days. Homespun Holiday Countdown Day 5

 Hi y'all! Welcome to Day 5 of my Homespun Holiday Countdown. I am so grateful you have taken the time to stop on in to check out what I've got going today. I wanted to share a little corner of my living room. We built our ranch style, open concept home in 2021. The floor plan doesn't offer a lot of nooks and crannies, and because it's open concept, it also doesn't offer a lot of wall space. I do love quirky spaces, but that was not to be in this house. Nonetheless, I try to make most of the corners and crannies I do have! Today's corner showcases a vintage Ethan Allen secretary desk I purchased from Facebook Marketplace. I like to style it with old books about Kentucky as well my collection of vintage pocket Bibles. For Christmas, I've displayed some antique as well as some vintage inspired Christmas items.
