What My Blog Is Not & Decor Sneak Peek

Welcome friends!

As I thought about starting this new blog and all of things I wanted it  to be, I also knew what I didn't want it to be.  That is what I want to share with you today.

I love to read decorating blogs, don't you?  I've got my favorites. I also have stopped reading a few. Not because I didn't enjoy their beautiful homes and talents. I stopped reading them because they became shaming blogs.

You know the ones: they publish lists of what they deem outdated or passe. They snub their noses at chevron or burlap or Tuscan style, etc. - the very styles they at one time touted as the best thing since the invention of sliced bread. "What was I thinking?"
" My style has matured so much since then. " Or they make statements such as,  "My house was so builder basic until I did this, that or the other thing to it." to my 3,000 square foot, whirlpool in the bath, granite countered home. Blah. Blah. Blah.

I am guilty of saying some of these things on my old blog, Bluebird1959. But, I won't do that any more. Here's the deal: I've decorated in a lot of different styles and color schemes over the years. From country blue & mauve, wallpaper borders, stenciling, to Tuscan and more - at one time or another. What was I thinking? I thought they made my house look great. But, like hair styles and fashion, times and styles change. I'm not embarrassed or ashamed that I once had ceramic chickens everywhere, or a wallpaper with cats on it in my kitchen or mauve gingham Formica counters.  They were awesome!

There are still people today who decorate with what some bloggers say are styles to be ashamed of.  Don't listen to them! Decorate your home with what you love. Every day. Without shame. Without ridicule. I've lived in apartments, a condo, a little house and an average sized house. They all felt like home and I was proud of them. You should feel the same way about your space, be it a room, an apartment, tiny house, average house or mansion. Far Ago Farm is a non shaming blog and always will be! Positivity and celebration of home is the name of the game!

  1. I agree wholeheartedly. There are far too many blogs who want to make you feel that you are somehow less than if you don't have a houseful of whatever that weeks current trend is. I decorate with what I can afford, and more importantly, what I like. Look forward to reading more on your blog.

  3. Yeah---a breath of fresh air, Jane. I, too, have stopped following some blogs that are so "big" that they have lost the personal touch. I agree with you--live with what you LOVE no matter what the current trends are. We all know that things come around again--well, maybe not to blue and mauve again (which I, too, had) but I am seeing blue again! lol

I hope you do really well with your new blog. I will put you on my sidebar so I don't miss any posts

Have a wonderful week & Congratulations!!!!! xo Diana

  4. Oh Jane this is so true. I have stopped following some blogs because of this very same thing you are talking about. I always live by the motto decorate with what you love and don't have others limit you to what you can or cannot have. LOL I went through a rooster phase and had so many roosters in my kitchen. I loved everyone of them at that time in my life. I have no regrets when I think back to my past decor. Like life decor changes too. Thanks for posting this today. I love your new blog. I loved the old one but I know we all need change and this is fabulous girl! Have a good start to the new week.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  5. I’m loving this! Being real is so important! I love friends who share their hearts. I’m slowly going through the blogs I follow and if they are not kindred spirits or have gone commercial, I stop following. Life is short and time is precious so I’m careful where and on whom I spend it.
Thank you for visiting and I’m now following you and looking forward to lots and lots of visits back and forth!

  6. Jane, I was going to answer on today's post but I saw this one and guess I missed it. I must say that I have read some of those blog shaming posts and it makes me mad also. Everything old is new again and that is why I am missing my primitive decorating and country decorating. Just because you love something that isn't current, doesn't mean you don't know what you are doing! My "grandma" style house makes me happy and, believe me, it isn't the same thing that everyone else has! I still read those blogs as I have to admit that I like the decorating, but that doesn't mean that it is any better than what I do or anybody else. Now, I've said my piece..Happy Wednesday..Judy
