Happy 4th of July & A Snafu

Image
Hi everyone! In my last post, I showed you the pretty corbels I scored in the clearance aisle at Hobby Lobby.  I am planning to hang them in my kitchen archway, but I hit an installation snafu and I am patiently(?) waiting for my hubby to help me out with them.  I promise I will share them installed and looking glorious soon! In the meantime, July 4th is knocking at our door - where has the summer gone? I hope you enjoy the 4th and spend it celebrating any way you choose - which is truly the American way. God bless America! Thanks for stopping by, Join me here: Talk of the Town Saturday Sparks

Corbel Crush

Hi everyone! Long time, no blog post. I had good intentions of blogging this year, but holy cats - time has gotten away from me.  All is well in my world, but blogging took a back seat.  Hopefully I will get on the regular to share what I'm up to! Today I want to share a super cute pair of corbels I recently picked up in the 75% off section of Hobby Lobby. .  They are huge and have a great farmhouse vibe. So many times corbels tend to look very ornate and Victorian or Tuscan.  The ones I found have fairly simple lines. Look at the price - under $9.00 each! Can't beat that. The finish they came in was bit  orangey/pink for my taste, but that was okay because where I plan on using them calls for a coat of my trim paint. This is a great shot of the original color alongside one with a coat of the Heirloom White. Although made out of resin, they really have a fabulous rustic texture and look very realistic. They both received two c...

Neutral Zone

Welcome friends! Our house has been going through a transformation the last year or two.  We've done quite a bit of remodeling inside, along with several large outdoor projects. All of this time making design decisions has lead me to contemplate the look and feel I want for our home.  I think I've really honed in on my style.  It really hasn't changed much over the years - I love vintage, farmhouse and color, but I think my "design eye" has improved. You can see my love of color  here  at my old blog, Bluebird1959. Unfortunately, my living room furniture you see in that post was an impulse decision and while cozy, it was very hard to decorate around and it was just too bold for our recently empty nest. I lived with it for many years, but I am happy to say I am fortunate enough to have recently purchased a new sofa and two leather chairs in a neutral (to me) color. I found a taupe-brown sofa that is cozy, yet simple. I think it could "go"...

Let it Faux! Let it Faux!

Welcome friends! Winter has finally turned our way here in Wisconsin and is coming at us like a runaway train.  Yesterday we got socked with about 8 inches of snow and the forecast for tomorrow is a windchill of 35 below zero.  Below zero... Oh boy. On the positive, frosty weather is a perfect time for some nesting - home decor projects, baking, cooking, etc.  Yesterday, my school was closed due to the snowstorm and I was able to get after a closet that has been the pit of disorganization for months and months. It felt good to straighten it all out - I even found a forgotten Christmas present for the Mr., lol! I wanted to show you these super cute muffins I recently purchased from Amazon. They kind of “go” with our cold weather. Aren’t they just the cutest?  They are so realistic!  They smell like muffins, they even FEEL like muffins, lol.  Another nifty feature is they are magnetized so they are super easy to style in an arrangeme...

Gather 'Round The Fire

Welcome friends! Today 's post is especially appropriate since Sunday we had a blizzard warning for our area.  What could be more appropriate and cozy during a blizzard but a fireplace?! This is our living room fireplace at Easter in 2018. Wisconsin fieldstone is a very popular choice for fireplace surrounds where we live. Not my first choice, but my husband caught me in a weak moment when we built our home years ago and well, we made it work. Honestly, I never liked it in our home. Here, you see we went neutral with our paint this spring and I'm loving it! My main purpose for sharing this picture is to showcase the lasting results of our housewarming party catastrophe: wax candles raining down onto our hearth stone! Oh no. I never got all the wax removed and we were left with a huge, ugly stain. That's why you will often see a little rug on our  hearth. A sorry (and not so great) attempt to hide it. I did this since 2001! I am happy to report that I wo...

Holiday Corner

Image
Welcome friends! Amid the construction chaos in our living room, I did find time to add a little holiday charm to a corner of our master bedroom - seemingly the only spot in the house not covered in dust or boxes right now. If nothing else, it looks like a peaceful place to lounge around. Have you jumped on the Christmas decorating train yet? I am blessed and grateful for your visit today.

Going Up!

Welcome friends! I gave  you a bit of a sneak peek in my last post of the area I am sharing today - our stairway! I apologize for the pictures - this is a dark, windowless space and is tough to photograph! But anyway, bad pics aside, this is our staircase - the first thing you see as you enter our home. My favorite, favorite, favorite thing about this area is my new wool carpeting! We had it installed at the end of August. I know it's not for everyone, but I have wanted this carpet from the day the first nail was driven when we built our house. It just covers the stair way. Once you get up to the hallway we have neutral carpeting. It is just what this simple area needed. I found this little door at one of my favorite flea markets this past summer. It's my door to nowhere, lol - but I think it looks quite charming. I added a cute and inexpensive sconce above it just for fun. I have a few vintage mirrors showcased here. I just love their patina.
